Recommended if you like natural water dips. There are two ponds of sulphurous muddy water, supposedly very good for the skin, with a few wooden steps to allow you to get on and out. The layer of mud on the bottom of the ponds is at least half-a-metre deep and very soft, so this is definitely a mud bath as much as a swim. In the centre of the ponds the water is over 2m in depth, and you can feel the hot water bubbling up from underground. But the ponds can be cool after rain. The path from the road to the ponds can also be muddy in such conditions. There is nothing else here except a bench and litter bin, and no source of clear water, so expect to take plenty of mud away with you on your skin and towels. If the gate and fence at the south end of the lay-by are closed, you can enter via the cycle track gate at the north end and walk across the field to the ponds.
